Heavenly was an English twee pop band formed 1989 in Oxford, UK, by Amelia Fletcher (vocals, guitar), Mathew Fletcher (drums), Peter Momtchiloff (guitar) and Robert Pursey (bass). All four had previously been in the band Talulah Gosh, a key member of the C86 scene. Cathy Rogers (vocals, keyboards) joined the band in 1991. The group's debut album Heavenly vs. Satan came out in 1991, sounding very much the same jangly guitar style used by Talulah Gosh. By the time of their second album, the critically acclaimed Le Jardin de Heavenly, Cathy Rodgers had joined, bringing stronger vocal harmony and keyboards to the band's sound. They released two more studio albums, The Decline and Fall of Heavenly and Operation Heavenly, before disbanding in 1996. All four studio albums are recommended, as is the excellent 1993 EP Atta Girl. The band's core members reformed in 2002 as a new band Tender Trap. Peter Momtchiloff joined up with formed Monochrome Set vocalist & guitarist "Bid" to for the folk-rock outfit Scarlet's Well.
