Hugo Race is an Australian rock musician and record producer born 1963 in Melbourne. He was a member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in their formative years, and founder of The Wreckery with Nick Barker and Robin Casinader. In 1987 vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Race formed True Spirit with Bryan Colechin (bass), Robin Casinader (violin), John Murphy (percussion), Chris Wilson (harmonica) and Nick Barker (bass, guitar). The band has released 13 consistently excellent albums with their blend of murky industrialised gothic blues-rock. He also works with the project Dirtmusic alongside Chris Eckman from The Willard Grant Conspiracy, Chris Brokaw from Codeine, and Turklish vocalist Murat Ertel. Hugo Race also performs and records solo works in parallel to his band activity. He has released 9 solo albums either under his own name or with another backup unit called Hugo Race Fatalists. Outstanding albums include Rue Morgue Blues, Earls World, Wet Dream, Chemical Wedding, The Goldstreet Sessions, 53rd State, No But It's True and We Never Had Control.
