iamthemorning is a Russian progressive rock/chamber pop duo formed 2010 in Saint Petersburg by singer Marjana Semkina and pianist Gleb Kolyadin. Stylistically their music is described as "Chamber Prog" or "Chamber Progressive Rock". Semkina and Gleb are the core members of the band, however when performing they typically include several other instruments such as guitar, bass, drums, wind instruments and, sometimes, a string quartet. The band self-released their debut album '~' (Tilde) in April 2012. Their second album Belighted was recorded and mixed in London by Marcel van Limbeek, featuring drummer Gavin Harrison from Porcupine Tree. Their third studio album, Lighthouse, won Album of the Year at the 2016 Progressive Music Awards. Again it features Porcupine Tree members Harrison (drums) and Colin Edwin (bass), plus vocalist Mariuza Duda from Polish prog-metal band Riverside. To-date the band has released four studio albums and two live albums. Standouts include Tilde, Lighthouse, The Bell, and the excellent 2015 live album From the House of Arts. Marjana Semkina has also released a solo album titled Sleepwalking (2020), and Kolyadin releases solo work under the name Poloniumcubes.
