Liars is an Australian-American band formed 2000 in Brooklyn, NY, by Angus Andrew (vocals, guitar), Aaron Hemphill (guitar, synthesizer, programming, percussion), Pat Noecker (bass) and Ron Albertson (drums). Australian born Andrew is the only member of the band remaining since its inception. Andrew and Aaron Hemphill met whilst college students in California, and began collaborating on four-track recordings. After graduating they relocated to New York City and began recruiting a rhythm section. Liars is one of the best underground electronic acts to emerge in the 2000s. The group’s sound melds traditional electronic elements with punk rock aesthetics. Although starting as a punk act, their sophomore release They Were So Wrong, We Drowned saw them embrace darker electronic drones to extend the songs into drawling beasts, relying on mood rather than energy. Their excellent 2006 album Drum’s Not Dead had a more straight forward approach to song-writing, which even resembled Pop at times. The album earned the band their first wave of critical acclaim, and saw them generate a wave of new fans. Liars continue to record and tour, with their last effort, 2018’s Titles With The Word Fountain, which serves as a companion album to the previous years TFCF, where the band adopted folk aesthetics. Angus Andrew has recently taken to wearing a white bridal gown and veil at performances and other public appearances.
