J.S. Bach's magnificent Suites for solo cello performed by the pre-eminent cellist of the 20th Century. Casals was the first musician to record all six suites and their popularity soared soon after Casals' original recordings made between 1936-1939. Although historical recordings, they are expertly engineered and clearly convey Casals' technical mastery and emotional attachment to the work. In 2019, the Casals recording was selected by the American Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". There have been many superb modern recordings of this work, but none capture the magic of the original Casals recordings.
