Philip Glass is an American modern classical composer and musician born 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland. Glass's work has been described as minimalism, having similar qualities to composers such as La Monte Young, Steve Reich, and Terry Riley. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential musicians of the late 20th century. Outstanding albums include Glassworks, Solo Piano, the operas Einstein on the Beach and Akhnaten, and the soundtracks to the films Koyaanisqatsi and Powaqqatsi.
