Robert Derwent Garth Forster is an Australian singer-songwriter, guitarist and music critic born 1957 in Brisbane, Queensland. Forster is best known as co-founder of influential indie rock group The Go-Betweens, with fellow musician Grant McLennan. With the Go-Betweens Foster wrote some of their most endearing songs and played on all of their albums up to their final release in 2005. As a soloist he released his debut album, the superb Danger in the Past, in 1990, calling on the support of Mick Harvey and fellow Bad Seed Hugo Race. In parallel to his music performance and recording work, Forster is a music journalist and has published a compilation entitled "The 10 Rules of Rock and Roll: Collected Music Writings 2005–09". Outstanding albums by Forster include Danger in the Past, Calling From a Country Phone, I Had a New York Girlfriend, The Evangelist and Songs to Play.
