Ryuichi Sakamoto | Artist

Ryuichi Sakamoto is a Japanese musician, singer, composer, record producer, activist, writer, and actor born 1952 in Nakano, Tokyo. Sakamoto began his career while at university in the 1970s as a session musician, producer, and arranger and in 1978 co-founded the Electronic-Pop trio Yellow Magic Orchestra. He has collaborated with David Sylvian and acted opposite David Bowie in the film Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence. Outstanding albums include the soundtracks for films Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, The Last Emperor and The Revenant, as well as solo works 1996 and Playing The Piano.
