The Savage Rose is a Danish psychedelic rock group formed 1967 in Copenhagen, Denmark, by Annisette (vocals), Anders Koppel (organ), Thomas Koppel (keyboards), Flemming Ostermann (guitar), Jens Rugsted (bass), Alex Riel (drums) and Ilse Maria Koppel (harpsichord, piano). Since the mid-1970s, the group downsized to an acoustic trio consisting of Thomas Koppel, Annisette Koppel and John Ravn as a core. From the beginning of the 1990s, the group returned to electric instrumentation. Thomas Koppel died in 2006 and Naja Rosa, his daughter with Annisette, joined the band on vocals. The band's sound was a fusion of psychedelic-rock with progressive and folk influences, all carried along by Annisette's distinctive high range voice. Their first two albums Savage Rose and In The Plain, both released in 1968, quickly established their reputation and gained them an invitation to perform at the prestigious Newport Jazz Festival in 1969. The band is still active as of 2019 and has released a total of 24 studio albums. Standouts include Savage Rose, In The Plain, Wild Child, Ild og frihed, Gadens Dronning and Homeless. Save Rose's Guitarist Peer Frost and drummer Ken Gudman joined fellow Danish band Young Flowers, and Gudman was also in Danish country progger's Culpeper's Orchard.
