Test Dept. is an English industrial music group formed 1981 in New Cross, London by Graham Cunnington, Paul Jamrozy, Jonathan Toby Burdon, Paul Hines and Angus Farquhar. They are one of the most important and influential early industrial music acts alongside contemporaries such as Cabaret Voltaire, Psychic TV, Foetus and Einstürzende Neubauten. Their approach is marked by the use of "found" instruments such as scrap metal and industrial machinery. The band is engaged in social-political activism and has been commissioned to create public performances and art installations. Outstanding albums include The Unacceptable Face of Freedom, Gododdin, Terra Firma and Pax Britannica, which is a collaboration with The Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
