Muswell Hillbillies from 1971 is often cited as the last of the Kinks' masterpiece albums. While this is a little unfair, because they made plenty of great albums through to the early '80s, it is fair to say that Musswell Hillbillies was their strongest album in the latter half of their career. All the great songwriting and musicianship is still evident but this album veers ever so slightly towards an Americana direction, perhaps foreshadowing Ray Davies' own continental shift of latter years. This album displays the Kinks at their rockin' best and is chock full of great tunes.
