The Wildhearts are an English rock group formed 1989 in Newcastle upon Tyne by Ginger Wildheart (vocals, guitar), Chris Jagdhar (guitar), Andrew Stidolph (drums), Snake (vocals) and Julien Dean (bass). The band was brought together by Ginger who had just gotten sacked from The Quireboys. Snake left the band after a year and they went through several drummers and bassists before settling on Jon Poole and Scott Sorry. Their sound is a mixture of hard rock and melodic pop music, often described in the music press as combining influences as diverse as The Beatles and 1980s-era Metallica. Their first three albums are superb: Earth vs. The Wildhearts (1993), Fishing for Luckies (1994) and P.H.U.Q (1995). Other standout albums include The Wildhearts Must be Destroyed, The Wildherts, Strike Back (live) and their excellent 2019 release Renaissance Men.
