Carcass is an English extreme metal band formed 1985 in Liverpool, UK, by Bill Steer (guitar), Jeff Walker (vocals), Ken Owen (drums) and Sanjiv (vocals). Steer and Owen originally formed the band when they met in school. Steer then joined Napalm Death, playing on their first album, then reunited with Walker, Owens and Sanjiv (briefly). Carcass are regarded as pioneers of the goregrind genre on account of their morbid lyrics and gruesome album covers. Walker and Steer are both committed vegetarians and their lyrics often focus on animal rights issues. The band has released to-date six studio albums, of which Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious and Heartwork are held in high esteem by metal critics. Other outstanding albums include Symphonies of Sickness and Surgical Steel.
