Yo La Tengo is an American indie rock band formed 1984 in Hoboken, New Jersey, by Ira Kaplan (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Georgia Hubley (vocals, drums, keyboards), Dave Schramm (guitar) and Dave Rick (bass). Since 1992 the lineup has consisted of Ira Kaplan, Georgia Hubley, and James McNew. In 1986, original guitarist Dave Schramm left the band to form The Schramms, but rejoined YLT in 2015. Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley formed the band as a couple in 1984 and they remain the creative heart of the band. Despite achieving limited mainstream success, Yo La Tengo has been called "the quintessential critics' band" and maintains a strong cult following. Their eclectic style of indie rock incorporates elements of noise rock, ambient, dream-pop, and folk. To-date the band has released 22 studio albums, with the period 1993-2000 being their creative peak when they released four indie-rock masterpieces: Painful (1993), Elect-o-Pura (1995), I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One (1997) and And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out (2000). Other stand-out albums include Fakebook, Summer Sun and I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass. In 2014, YLT played an Indiana-based Night Ranger cover band Bobby Night Ranger in the final episode Season 6 of the TV series Parks and Recreation.
