Erasure | Artist
Erasure is an English synth-pop duo formed 1985 in London by singer and songwriter Andy Bell and songwriter and keyboardist Vince Clarke. They formed in London in 1985. Clarke was previously a founding member of Depeche Mode, and writer of their early singles including "Just Cann't Get Enough". Clarke was previously in the duo Yazoo which, like Depeche Mode, was a successful synth-pop/dance band, particularly with LGBT audiences. Both members were greatly influenced by the music of early synth band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. Erasure's first three singles were commercial failures in the UK but with their fourth single, "Sometimes", the duo established themselves on the UK Singles Chart, becoming one of the most successful artists of the late 1980s to mid-1990s. They have released to-date 20 studio albums and a great many highly successful Singles and EPs. Standouts include the EP Crackers International, and the albums The Innocents, Chorus and Erasure. Also the 1992 compilation Pop! The First 20 Hits, is an excellent collection of their early Singles.
