Fred Neil | Artist

Fred Neil was an American folk singer-songwriter born 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio. Neil, who was renowned for his deep melodic voice, was one of the singer-songwriters who worked out of New York's famous Brill Building. Many of his early songs were covered by rock and roll artists such as Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison. Other famous songs of his include "Candyman" covered by Roy Orbison, "Everybody's Talking" covered by Harry Nilsson, "Dolphins" covered by Tim Buckley and It's a Beautiful Day, and "Other Side of This Life" covered by Jefferson Airplane. Neil recorded four studio albums and one live album. Standouts include Bleecker & MacDougal, Fred Neil, Sessions and Other Side of This Life. Though highly regarded by contemporary folk singers, he was reluctant to tour and spent much of the last 30 years of his life assisting with the preservation of dolphins.
