Jello Biafra | Artist
Eric Reed Boucher aka Jello Biafra is an American hardcore punk singer and spoken word artist, born 1958 in Boulder, Colorado. He is the former lead singer and songwriter for the San Francisco punk rock band Dead Kennedys until 1986, then a solo artist. Biafra's sardonic lyrics and biting social commentary, delivered in his unique quiver of a voice, was the trademark of the Dead Kennedy's sound. Since that band's acrimonious breakup, Biafra has focused primarily on spoken word performances, and in numerous collaborations such as D.O.A, The Guantanamo School of Medicine, Mojo Nixon and The Melvins. He has also occasionally appeared in cameo roles in films. Up until 2006 Biafra has released 9 studio albums plus numerous live albums. Standouts include Last Scream of the Missing Neighbors, Prairie Home Invasion, Machine Gun in the Clown's Hand, In The Grip of Official Treason and High Priest of Harmful Matter (live). Biafra is a staunch believer in a free society, employing shock value, direct action and pranksterism in the name of political causes. Biafra is known to use absurdist media tactics, in the leftist tradition of the Yippies, to highlight issues of civil rights and social justice.
