The Black Crowes was an American rock band formed 1989 in Marietta, Georgia, by brothers Chris Robinson (vocals, harp) and Rich Robinson (guitar). The brothers were influenced by 1970s-era blues rock and southern rock, styles which have defined the band's sound. They hit the ground running with their debut album Shake Your Money Maker which received multi-platinum status and eventually sold more than five million copies, supported by singles "Hard to Handle", "She Talks to Angels", Jealous Again", "Twice as Hard", "Sister Luck" and "Seeing Things". Their follow-up album 1992's excellent The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, was also hugely successful and cemented their position as one of the USA's biggest rock acts of the late '90s. The band went on to record 11 studio albums and many live albums, including the excellent collaboration with Jimmy Page, Live at the Greek. They split in 2015, with the Robinson brothers working together and forming seperate bands; Chris Robinson Brotherhood and The Magpie Salute. Outstanding Black Crowes albums include Shake Your Money Maker, The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, Amorica, The Lost Crowes and Before the Frost Until the Freeze.
