The Nice was an English progressive rock band formed 1967 in London by Keith Emerson, Lee Jackson, Brian Davison and David O'List. They blended rock, jazz and classical music and were formed to be the backing band for soul singer P. P. Arnold then carried on as a band in their own right. As an aside, one of their Roadies was Lemmy Kilmister who provided the Hitler Youth dagger that Emerson used to attack his keyboard during wild solos. Guitarist O'List was sacked in 1968 and he went on to play briefly for Jethro Tull and Roxy Music. The trio carried on until 1970 when Emerson formed ELP, Jackson formed Jackson Heights and Davison formed Every Which Way. Outstanding albums include The Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack, Ars longa vita brevis and the live Five Bridges.
