Tom Rush | Artist

Tom Rush is an American folk and blues singer and songwriter born 1941 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Rush began performing in 1961 while studying at Harvard University where he majored in English literature. He then worked the coffee house folk circuit around Cambridge and Boston. Many of his early recordings are versions of Scottish and Appalachian folk songs, while his later work veers more towards west-coast country-rock. Rush was the archetypal singer-songwiter, performing his own compositions and covering songs by Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, James Taylor and David Wiffen, helping them to gain recognition early in their careers. His own 1968 composition "No Regrets" has become a standard, with numerous cover versions having been recorded, including The Walker Brothers, Emmylou Harris and Midge Ure. One of the earliest music videos produced (1968) for an artist by a record company, Elektra, can be found at his website. It was used to promote "No Regrets" for his The Circle Game album. Rush has released 13 studio albums, standouts include Tom Rush (1965), The Circle Game (1968), Wrong End of the Rainbow (1970), Merrimack County (1972) and Ladies Love Outlaws (1974).
