Waxahatchee | Artist

Waxahatchee is an American indie/folk project formed 2010 in Birmingham, Alabama by Katie Crutchfield. Originally an acoustic solo project, her recordings tend to now involve a backing band including her Sister Allison Crutchfield. Katie, who was previously a member of the band P.S. Eliot, began writing and recording songs with twin sister Allison, resulting in her debut album American Weekend, which was recorded in one week in her bedroom. A second album, Cerulean Salt, was released in March 2013 and the critically acclaimed work reached #1 on the Record Store Chart in July 2013 and received rave review on Pitchfork. Waxahatchee supported Tegan and Sara on their U.K. tour, before playing a headline U.K. tour in October that same year, followed by headline tours of the US, on the same bill with bands such as The New Pornographers. In 2015 she released her third album Ivy Trip, followed by Out in the Storm in 2017. Her latest album to-date Saint Cloud, released in 2020 was, according to interviews given by Crutchfield, largely written about her decision to get sober. Outstanding albums include American Weekend (2012), Cerulean Salt (2013), Saint Cloud (2020) and Tigers Blood (2024). In January 2018, indie label Dead Oceans released the single "Farewell Transmission" b/w "The Dark Don't Hide It" by Waxahatchee and her partner Kevin Morby, in homage to songwriter Jason Molina. The Artist's working name comes from Waxahatchee Creek, in Alabama, where the Crutchfield's were raised.
