Wilco is an American alternative rock band formed 1994 in Chicago, Illinois, by Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt, Max Johnstone and Ken Coomer. From the initial lineup only Tweedy and Stirratt remain and they have been joined by Nels Cline, Pat Sansone, Glen Kotche and Mikael Jorgensen. The band was formed by the remaining members of alternative country group Uncle Tupelo following singer Jay Farrar's departure. Jeff Tweedy's influence in the band has grown and he contributes most of the band's compositions as well as singing, guitar and musical arrangements. Rolling Stone magazine described Wilco as "one of America's consistently interesting bands". They have released fourteen studio albums plus collaborative works with Billy Bragg, reinterpreting the songs of Woody Guthrie. Outstanding albums include Being There, Mermaid Avenue, Summerteeth, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, A Ghost is Born, Sky Blue Sky and Kicking Television: Live in Chicago.
