Beasts of Bourbon is an Australian blues rock band formed 1983 in Sydney by core members Tex Perkins (vocals, guitar), James Baker (drums), Spencer P. Jones (guitar), Kim Salmon (guitar) and Boris Sujdovic (bass), all fine musicians from acclaimed former bands. The Beasts play blues-tinged hard rock overlaid with Tex's menacing vocals. On the release of their second album Black Milk, critic Ian McFarlane commented on the band's style "The Cramps-influenced swamp-rock of old had been discarded for a more adventurous slab of gutbucket blues and avant-garde weirdness". The band continues to play and record occasionally alongside Perkins' other band The Cruel Sea and his solo and collaborative work with Tex, Don & Charlie. Spencer P Jones was formerly with The Jonnies and The Sacred Cowboys, as well as releasing solo albums. Kim Salmon, formerly with The Scientists, has his own outfit Kim Salmon & The Surrealists. Beasts of Bourbon have released eight studio albums, Outstanding albums include Sour Mash, The Axeman's Jazz, The Low Road and From the Belly of the Beasts.
