Giovanni "Nino" Rota was an Italian composer, pianist, conductor and academic born 1911 in Milan. He was best known for his film scores, notably for the films of Federico Fellini and Luchino Visconti. Rota, a musical child prodigy, wrote hundreds of works for orchestra and 200 scores for movies, TV and stage, in his lifetime. His music for Fellini's films are particularly memorable and many are among the greatest movie soundtracks ever recorded. Outstanding releases include La dolce vita, 8 1/2, Juliet of the Spirits, The Godfather and Amarcord.
