Equal Rights is the Second solo album by Peter Tosh, originally released in 1977. Having split from The Wailers in 1974 Peter "Tosh" Mackintosh set out on a solo career and recorded a number of excellent albums before his life was tragically cut short in 1987. His debut album Legalize It kicked things off nicely with his socially and politically charged roots reggae sound, but with his next release Equal Rights he delivered the crowning achievement of his solo recording career. Tosh not only sang and played almost every instrument, with the only additions being Robbie Shakespeare on bass and Karl Pitterson on guitar, but he also self-produced the album which was recorded at Randy's Studio in Kingston. This album represents his resounding statements for freedom and 'equal rights'. Like Bob Marley's Albums, this one transcends the music genre and is a lasting testament to one of reggae's greatest artists.
