William Frisell is an American guitarist, composer and arranger born 1951 in Baltimore, Maryland. He is one of the world's leading jazz guitarists and has an extensive catalogue of excellent recordings as a soloist, with his own ensemble, and in collaboration with other name artists. Frisell's big break came when he stood in for Pat Metheny at an ECM recording session. Since then he has become one of the leading artists for ECM Records. He is part of the Naked City group and has collaborated with jazz greats such as Kenny Wheeler, Dave Holland, Lee Konitz and Paul Motian. Outstanding albums include Quartet, Good Dog Happy Man, The Intercontinentals and History Mystery.
