Dio was an American heavy rock group formed 1982 in Cortland, New York and led by Ronnie James Dio. Vocalist Dio and drummer Vinny Appice had just split from Black Sabbath and they recruited Vivian Campbell (guitar) and Jimmy Bain (bass) to complete the first lineup who recorded their classic debut album Holy Diver. Dio added Claude Schnell (keyboards) as the fifth member for the recording of their second excellent album The Last in Line. Following that they went through numerous lineup changes, with Dio at one stage dissolving the band and re-joining Black Sabbath for a period. The band was one of the most successful heavy rock acts of the period, selling over 10 million albums worldwide. They finally ceased when Dio died in 2010. Outstanding albums include Holy Diver, The Last in Line, Dream Evil and Evil or Divine: Live in New York City.
