Big Brother & The Holding Company | Artist
Big Brother and the Holding Company is an American rock band formed 1965 in San Francisco by Peter Albin, Sam Andrew, James Gurley and Chuck Jones. Janis Joplin joined the band in 1966 in a toss-up between Big Brother or fellow Texans 13th Floor Elevators. The band's albums recorded with Joplin are excellent, in particular the classic Cheap Thrills and Live at Winterland '68. But after Janis left they lost their spark. Dave Getz and Peter Albin left to join Country Joe & The Fish, and Nick Gravenites came on board for their final two albums.
