Anna Von Hausswolff Next Wave

At times frightening and transcending, the music of Anna Von Hausswolff binds classical to drone and post-rock, making for absolutely ethereal chamber music. Take Jarboe's contributions to Swans and mix it with Sun 0))) and you'll begin to imagine the brilliance and depth of one of the best composers working today.

Hausswolff has earned a place among her contemporaries (Lingua Ignota, Chelsea Wolfe) and is seemingly hellbent on becoming a legend as she channels influences such as Einsturzende Neubaten, Diamanda Galas and Nico, together with modern classical composers such as Henryk Górecki.

All these comparisons only begin to indicate what can be heard on record, but cannot be fully explained without hearing it for yourself. All her best sounds and ideas come together on her 2018 opus, 'Dead Magic', which builds on 2012's 'Ceremony' and 2015's 'The Miraculous'. Hausswolff has also just released her 'Live At Montreal Jazz Festival' which perfectly captures her haunting live shows.

The gothic grandeur of simultaneously oppressive yet transcending atmospheres crafted via droning organs and angelic vocals conjure up dread and beauty time and time again. The trance induced by these albums (especially 'Dead Magic') is completely mesmerising.

'The Truth, The Glow, The Fall' and 'Ugly & Vengeful' make for the best 'funeral pop' in recent memory. Entrancing, dark and utterly spellbinding. We implore you to indulge in the theatre of the music, as it is an absolute must for any music fan.

Daughter of the esteemed Swedish composer and visual artist Carl Michael von Hausswolff, Anna herself is proving to be a legend in the making.

'Dead Magic' and other selected works are available in the Store now.
