Lianne La Havas shows herself to be a versatile artist, with a passionate grip on emotive songwriting.
Just three albums into her career, she has quickly become one of the biggest breakthroughs in recent years, especially after her 2015 sophomore effort, 'Blood'. The album which gained her a core fanbase, critical praise and support slots for Coldplay in their arena shows. Her instrumental palette is layered and subtle. She combines clean contemporary production with folk ideas and sounds, which creates an enjoyable sound that works in all settings without compromising on integrity.
These traits are all seen in spades on last years self-titled release. The album has everything from R&B fusion singles ('Read My Mind'), to quiet ballads ('Courage'), to a cover of Radiohead's 'Weird Fishes'. It's rare to see an artist reach so many different demographics independently with a clear sonic vision whilst experimenting along the way. The album is one of our personal favourites from last year and comes highly recommended for all listeners.
Over her brief catalogue, Lianne La Havas is consistent in musical ambition whilst evolving her sounds for critics and fans, without ever alienating or compromising for either.
