The Bee Gees were a pop music group formed 1958 in Brisbane, Australia by brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. Their first public gig was in 1960 as the interval act at the Redcliffe motor speedway. The trio gained popularity on the club and dance circuit, and released a few singles before they moved to Sydney in 1963. In 1966 they recorded their debut album Spicks and Specks at Ossie Byrne's studio in Hurstville, on the Spin label. The band moved to London in 1967 and were introduced to ex-pat Australian producer Robert Stigwood. They signed with Polydor Records and recorded their excellent second album Bee Gees 1st that same year. From that point they went on to stardom, becoming one of the most successful popular music acts of the late 1960s and early 1970s, and later as prominent performers of the disco music era in the late 1970s. Each of the brothers was an accomplished writer and vocalist and all three released solo works. Outstanding albums include Bee Gees 1st, Ideas, Odessa, Main Course and Saturday Night Fever.
