Earth is an American drone metal band formed 1989 in Olympia, Washington, by Dylan Carlson (guitar), Slim Moon (vocals) and Greg Babior (guiitar). The band has been through many lineup changes and Carlson is the only continuous member. Drummer Adrienne Davies is the next most longstanding member. Their early work is characterised by distortion, droning, minimalism, and lengthy, repetitive song structures, but their later work tones down the distortion while incorporating elements of country, rock and folk. Dylan Carlson was a friend of Kurt Cobain, and Cobain sang lead vocals on Earth's song "Divine and Bright". The band had a nine year break while Carlson was recovering from addiction and jailed for supplying a gun to Cobain. The band has released 12 studio albums to-date, standouts include Earth 2: Special Low Frequency Version, Pentastar: In the Style of Demons, Hex; or Printing in the Infernal Method, Hibernaculum and The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull. Dylan Carlson is also a member of dark ambient band Asva.
