Edgar Winter is an American musician, songwriter, and record producer born 1946 in Beaumont, Texas. Edgar, the younger brother of master bluesman Johnny Winter, is known for being a multi-instrumentalist, playing keyboards, guitar, saxophone and percussion, as well as being a singer. His success peaked in the 1970s with his band, The Edgar Winter Group, and their popular songs "Frankenstein" and "Free Ride". Winter's music encompasses different genre, including rock, jazz, blues, and pop as demonstrated on his critically acclaimed 1970 debut release Entrance. In addition to his solo work, Winter formed the band White Trash in 1971, which featured Rick Derringer (guitar) from The McCoys and Jerry LaCroix (vocals) from Blood Sweat & Tears. He also formed The Edgar Winter Group which featured Dan Hartman, Ronnie Montrose and Derringer. Standout albums across his solo and band work, include Entrance, Edgar Winter's White Trash, Roadwork and They Only Come Out at Night. Winter invented the keyboard body strap early in his career, an innovation that allows him the freedom to move around on stage during his multi-instrument high-energy performances.
