Nurse With Wound | Artist
Nurse with Wound is an English avant-garde electronic band formed 1978 in London by Steven Stapleton, John Fothergill and Heman Pathak. Since the departure of Fothergill and Pathak the band name has been the main recording name for Steven Stapleton. The band was a pioneer of the industrial, noise, dark ambient, and drone musical genres. Stapleton's fondness for dada surrealism and absurdist humour influence much of NWW's output, which draws on a wide assortment of styles including Cabaret, Nursery Rhymes, John Cage, Krautrock, Ambient, Easy Listening and Music Concrète. Their 1979 debut album Chance Meeting on a Dissecting Table of a Sewing Machine and an Umbrella was controversial both for the crude experimentalism of the music and for the provocative cover image. After leaving the band in 1981, Fothergill went on to spend many years at the BBC children's unit, working on programmes such as Raven and In the Night Garden. UK musician Colin Potter began working with Stapleton in 1992 and has appeared on most NWW releases since. Nurse With Wound has released over Eighty studio albums and very many live and archival compilations. Outstanding releases include Chance Meeting on a Dissecting Table of a Sewing Machine and an Umbrella, Soliloquy for Lilith, Spiral Insana, Thunder Perfect Mind, Shipwreck Radio Volume One, the archival release Sugar Fish Drink, and the compilation Psilotripitaka.
