Swing Out Sister is an English pop group formed 1985 in Manchester by Corinne Drewery (vocals), Andy Connell (keyboards) and Martin Jackson (drums). Jackson left in 1991 and they continued as a duo. They play a style of sophisticated jazz-pop and are known worldwide for their hits "Breakout", "Surrender", "Twilight World", "Waiting Game" and "Am I the Same Girl?". Andy Connell was previously in Factory Records bands A Certain Ratio, Swamp Children and Kalima, and Martin Jackson spent a few years in the band Magazine. Corinne Drewery was formerly a fashion designer and model. The band has released 12 consistently excellent studio albums, the latest being in 2017. Standouts include Shapes and Patterns, Filth and Dreams, Somewhere Deep in the Night and Where Our Love Grows. The band also recorded a cover of the soundtrack for the 1969 French film Les Étrangers, which was used as the soundtrack to ITV's "The Outsiders" which aired October 2006 but never made it past the pilot episode.
