Muriel Grossmann is an Austrian Jazz saxophonist, singer and composer born 1971 in Paris. She moved to Vienna at an early age, where she initiated classical studies of flute at the age of five until twenty-one, when she switched to alto and soprano saxophone for further studies. Muriel Grossmann played and toured with various rhythm, blues, funk, world music and jazz groups and artists such as Hans Tschiritsch, Shani Ben Canar, Christoph Kurzmann, Geri Schuller, Pete Hoven, Robert Rehak, and The Original Brothers. In 2002 she moved to Barcelona where she started to lead her own bands for recordings and concerts. Her style has been described as 'Spiritual Jazz', a free-form approach which takes influences from artists such as Pharoah Sanders, Don Cherry and Alice Coltrane. As a recording artist Grossmann has released 10 studio albums of consistently excellent high standard. Standout works include her string of Five superb albums released between 2016-2020: Natural Time, Momentum, Golden Rule, Reverence and Quiet Earth. The 2020 compilation set Elevation is also highly recommended.
