Caetano Emanuel Viana Telles Veloso is a Brazilian composer, singer, guitarist, writer, and political activist born 1942 in Santo Amaro, Brazil. Veloso first became known for his participation in the 1960s Brazilian musical movement Tropicalismo, which encompassed theatre, poetry and music. He was arrested in 1969 by the Brazilian Military Dictatorship, along with fellow musician Giberto Gil. The two were exiled from Brazil and went to London where they lived for two years. Veloso released a string of superb albums between 1967-79 when he was at the peak of his creativity. He went on to become one of Brazil's most revered musicians working in the fields of music, music production, poetry, film, and political activism. Outstanding albums include his three sell-titled albums released in '68, '69 and '71, plus Transa, Jóia, Bicho and Cinema transcendental.
