Einstürzende Neubauten | Artist
Einstürzende Neubauten is a German experimental music group, originally formed 1980 in West Berlin by Blixa Bargeld, Beate Bartel, Gudrun Gut and N.U. Unrah. Percussionists Bartel and Gut left early to form band Mania D and were replaced by the then 15 year old Alexander Hacke. From 1983-2003 Blixa Bargeld joined Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, being simultaneously in both bands. After 2003 he focussed back on Einstürzende Neubauten and on solo projects. The band's harsh industrial sound employs custom-built percussion equipment as well as traditional electric instruments. The band name translates into English as "collapsing new buildings" referring to the cheap ugly architecture built in Germany in the post-war period. Outstanding albums include Zeichnungen des Patienten O.T., ½ Mensch, Haus der Lüge, Ende Neu, Silence is Sexy and Alles Wieder Offen. The 2016 compilation Greatest Hits is also recommended.
