Faust is a Germam Kosmiche band formed 1971 in Wümme by original members Werner "Zappi" Diemaier (drums, percussions), Hans Joachim Irmler (organ), Arnulf Meifert (drums), Jean-Hervé Péron (bass, vocals, guitar, trumpet, french horn), Rudolf Sosna (guitar, keyboards, vocals) and Gunther Wüsthoff (saxophone, synthesizer), working with producer Uwe Nettelbeck and Engineer Kurt Graupner. Steven Wray Lobdell has been a guitarist with the band since 1994. They were one of the first acts signed to Richard Branson's Virgin Records. As well as traditional instruments, Faust experimented with electronics and audio tape cut-and-paste to augment their sound. They were one of the most influential of the so-called 'Krautrock' bands and would greatly influence subsequent industrial and ambient music. To-date the band has released 22 studio albums, including the masterpieces Faust and Faust IV. Other standouts include So Far, The Faust Tapes, the live albums Od serca do duszy and Schiphorst 2008, plus the compilation Faust 1971-1974. Of their many collaborations, standouts include Outside The Dream Syndicate, with Tony Conrad, and Faust v Dälek.
