Helloween | Artist
Helloween is a German power metal band founded 1984 in Hamburg by Michael Weikath (guitar), Markus Grosskopf (bass), Kai Hansen (vocals, guitar), and Ingo Schwichtenberg (drums). They are regarded as one of the most influential European heavy metal bands of the 1980s. The founding members came together from three existing bands; Iron Fist, Gentry, Second Hell and Powerfool. Hansen quit Helloween in 1989 to form Gamma Ray, and the band evolved into a five-piece, with Michael Kiske taking over as lead vocalist and Roland Crapow coming on as second guitarist. Helloween has released 16 studio albums, three live albums, three EPs and 30 singles, was honored with 14 gold and six platinum awards and has sold more than ten million records worldwide. Standout albums include Walls of Jerico (1985), Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I (1987), Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II (1988), The Time of the Oath (1996) and The Dark Ride (2000). The band has always been characterised by their lead vocals. First, there was the piercingly high voice of young prodigy Michael Kiske, then the rasp of Andi Deris. Somewhere along the line, probably with career-high water-marks Keeper Of The Seven Keys 1 and 2, Helloween have become one of the most colourful and seminal metal bands of the past two decades. Helloween's latest album, 2021's self titled release, topped German charts and also reached number one in sales in other countries. Following the success of the album, the band launched a comic book and a line of collectible action figures inspired by their cover artwork and lyrical lore.
