Ennio Morricone OMRI is an Italian composer, orchestrator, conductor, and trumpet player, born 1928 in Rome. He has composed a wide range of musical styles but is most famous for over 400 scores for cinema and television, as well as over 100 classical works. In particular he is known for his "spaghetti western" scores done for director and former schoolmate Sergio Leone, starring Clint Eastwood. Some of his most well known scores include The Good The Bad and The Ugly, A Fistful of Dollars, Once Upon a Time in the West, La Cage Aux Folles and The Untouchables. In more recent years he became idolised by young directors such as Quentin Tarantino, and Morricone scored more recent movies such as Kill Bill: Volume 2, Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained. He won the Academy Award for best film score, plus has received numerous nominations. As for his recordings, Morricone has sold over 70 million albums over the course of his career and released over 399 studio albums, excluding compilations. Morricone has a remarkable body of superb work to his name, a small sample of standouts includes Once Upon a Time in the West, A Fistfull of Dollars, The Good The Band and The Ugly and The Untoucables.
