Eduard Artemiev | Artist

Eduard Nikolaevich Artemiev is a Russian composer of electronic music and film scores born 1937 in Novosibirsk, Russia. Outside of Russia he is mostly known for his soundtracks for the films of Andrei Tarkovsky including Solaris, Zerkalo and Stalker. He was awarded the title People's Artist of Russia in 1999. His interest in electronic music began after his graduation from Moscow Conservatory in 1960, when electronic music was still in its infancy. He wrote his first composition in 1967 on one of the first synthesisers, the ANS Synthesizer developed by Soviet engineer Evgeny Murzin. Artemiev has release 22 albums including film scores, orchestral works and solo instrumental works. Standout albums include Solaris, Eduard Artemyev, Urga and Stalker / The Mirror - Music From Andrey Tarkovsky's Motion Pictures. Eduard Artemyev's composition "Campaign or Death of the hero" (Siberiade) was used at 2014 Winter Olympics opening Ceremony in Sochi, and his theme "At Home Among Strangers" was used at the closing ceremony. Artemiev's son Artemiy is also a musician and composer.
