Adrian Sherwood is an English record producer born 1958 in London. He specialises in the genres of Dub and EDM and has released many fine albums under his own name and as a member of bands including Dub Syndicate, London Underground and Tackhead. As a producer he has worked with The New Age Steppers, Prince Far I, Suns of Arqa, Creation Rebel and African Head Charge. He has created a distinctive production style based on the application of dub effects and dub mixing techniques to other forms of electronic dance music. During the early 1980s Sherwood brought together many Jamaican artists under the collective name of Singers and Players, including Prince Far I, Mikey Dread, Bim Sherman, Suns of Arqa and many others, helping to promote the individual artists at the same time as promoting the On-U Sound Records label. Sherwood has remixed tracks for many non-reggae artists including Coldcut, Depeche Mode, The Woodentops, Primal Scream, Pop Will Eat Itself, Sinéad O'Connor and Skinny Puppy. As a recording artist Sherwood has released 8 albums including solo and collaborative works. Standouts include Never Trust a Hippy (2003), Tackhead Sound Crash Slash & Mix (2006), Becoming a Cliché (2006) and the collaboration with Lee 'Scratch' Perry Dub Setter (2009). Also highly recommended are the archival compilations Sherwood at the Controls - Volume 1: 1979 - 1984 and Sherwood at the Controls Volume 2: 1985 - 1990, from 2015 and 2016 respectively. Sherwood also founded UK bud/reggae labels On-U Sound Records and Pressure Sounds. As a producer, he considers himself tone deaf, and focuses on making sounds and noises rather than melody.
