Curved Air is an English progressive rock group formed 1970 in London by Darryl Way (violin), Francis Monkman (keyboards), Sonja Kristina (vocals), Florian Pilkington-Miksa (drums) and Rob Martin (bass). The band evolved from an earlier band Sisyphus with the addition of Kristina who performed in the London stage production of Hair. The band gained some attention and became the first UK band signed to the US Warners Bros label. With each band member coming from different musical backgrounds, the band had its own unique style which fused classical, folk, rock and electronic elements. Their first four albums: Air Conditioning, Second Album, Phantasmagoria and Air Cut, are excellent. The 1975 release Curved Air Live is also very good. In '72 the band split temporarily but came back together from time to time with different members including Eddie Jobson (violin) and Mike Wedgewood (guitar). Darryl Way went on to form Darryl Way's Wolf, Monkman joined John Williams and Herbie Flowers to form Sky, and Sonjia Kristina pursued a solo career.
