Robert Hutcherson was an American jazz vibraphone and marimba player born 1941 in Los Angeles, California. Hutcherson started playing the Vibraphone at age 12 after hearing Miles Davis, Milt Jackson and Thelonious Monk records. Working sessions and support in various Jazz bands, he got the attention of Blue Note Records and released his excellent debut album Dialogue on that label in 1965. He went on to record many more excellent albums and become, along with Gary Burton, one of the preeminent vibraphonists on the Jazz scene. For many years Hutcherson was a member of the SF Jazz Collective, alongside Joshua Redman. Outstanding albums include Dialogue, Components, Stick-up!, Head On, Solo/Quartet and Patterns.
