Blondie | Artist
Blondie is an American rock band founded 1974 in New York City by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein. After some false starts the lineup settled on Harry, Stein, Clem Burke (drums), Gary Valentine (bass) and Jimmy Destri (keyboards). Stein and Harry had already gigged at CBGB's in an earlier band The Stilletos, and so it was that Blondie found themselves with a regular gig at NYC's premier underground punk/new wave music venue alongside the likes of Talking Heads, Patti Smith, Ramones, Television, etc. Their excellent debut album Blondie was released on Private Stock Records in '76 but was re-released in '77 on the larger UK label Chrysalis Records. It received very little attention in the USA but was a hit in Australia and the UK. Their second album Plastic Letters released in '78 was only mildly successful but it was the third album Parallel Lines, released later that same year, that gave them mainstream success. Blondie have released eleven studio albums and Deborah Harry has a swag of good solo albums. The first four Blondie albums; Blondie, Plastic Letters, Parallel Lines and Eat to the Beat are classics. Autoamerican and At the BBC (live) are also stand-outs.
