Codeine | Artist
Codeine was an American indie rock band formed 1989 in New York City by John Engle (guitar), Stephen Immerwahr (bass, vocals) and Chris Brokaw (drums). Brokaw left in '92 to play full time with Come, and was replaced by Doug Scharin. Due to the band's slow and depressing musical style, they are credited as a pioneering act of the subgenre "slowcore" along with bands like Low and Red House Painters. In their time together, Codeine released two excellent studio albums Frigid Stars LP and The White Birch, a live album and two EPs. The compilation album When I See The Sun (2012) is a superb collection of their work.
