Corrosion of Conformity aka COC is an American heavy sludge-metal band formed 1982 in Raleigh, North Carolina, by initial lineup Woody Weatherman (guitar), Mike Dean (bass) and Reed Mullin (drums). Pepper Keenan (vocals, rhythm guitar) joined in 1989. The band has undergone multiple line-up changes throughout its existence with Woody Weatherman as the sole constant member. Starting out as a hardcore punk band COC were influenced by heavy metal bands like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Scorpions and Judas Priest, as well as by hardcore groups like Black Flag, Bad Brains, Circle Jerks and Minor Threat. They have worked with other artists including James Hetfield of Metallica who contributed vocals to the song "Man or Ash" on Wiseblood. Pepper Keenan appears in the Metallica documentary Some Kind of Monster, auditioning to be replacement for Jason Newsted. Standout COC albums include Blind, Deliverance, Wiseblood and In The Arms of God.
