Dirty Three is an Australian instrumental rock band formed 1992 in Melbourne by Warren Ellis (violin, bass), Mick Turner (guitar) and Jim White (drums). Ellis is a member of The Bad Seeds and Grinderman, and composes soundtracks with Nick Cave. Turner has been in various bands including The Moodists, Venom P Stinger and Fungus Brains. Jim White has also been in many bands including The Black Eyed Susans and Crime & The City Solution. The trio creates music that blends rock, folk ballads, chamber music and free jazz, and their 1996 album Horse Stories was voted by Rolling Stone as one of the top three albums of the year. Standout albums include Dirty Three, Horse Stories, Ocean Songs, Whatever you Love you Are and Live! at Meredith.
