Do Make Say Think is a Canadian post-rock band formed 1995 in Toronto, Ontario, by Charles Spearin (bass, keyboards, trumpet), Ohad Benchetrit (guitar, saxophone), Justin Small (guitar) and James Payment (drums). Spearin and Benchetrit are also members of Canadian indie group Broken Social Scene, which formed in 1999. DMST came together as a recording project for a Canadian youth dramatic production and they self-released the album Easing on cassette in 1995. Their music, broadly defined as "post-rock", combines jazz-style drumming, distorted guitars and wind instruments, and prominent bass guitar. Being instrumental, the music lends itself to movie soundtracks, such as the song "Chinatown" which was used in the movies "Syriana", "The Corporation" and "A Simple Curve". The band has released eight studio albums to-date, standouts include Goodbye Enemy Airship The Landlord is Dead, & Yet & Yet, Winter Hymn Country Hymn Secret Hymn, You You're a History in Rust and Other Truths. Their seventh album, titled Stubborn Persistent Illusion from 2017 won the 2018 Juno Awards for Best Instrumental Album.
